Due to high demand, Texas Farmers’ Market (TFM) will add a second market to its weekly schedule at Mueller. The new Wednesday afternoon and evening farmers’ market will provide a convenient opportunity for those who live, work and play in East Austin to pick up fresh produce midweek.
“Not only does the market carry a variety of unique homemade products for purchase, but the bounty of locally grown, seasonal fruits, vegetables, and sustainably-raised meats and gulf seafood is constantly changing, so there is always something new to try,” said Kate Payne, executive director of the Texas Farmers’ Market. The market also provides resources (such as recipes and a guide to what’s in season) on its website.
Already, as many as 45 vendors are on board for the new Wednesday market, which is scheduled to begin in early May from 5 to 8 p.m. Partnering with the Sustainable Food Center, the organization also accepts SNAP Lonestar dollars, and $1 is worth $2 for these benefits on fresh fruits and vegetables with up to $30 doubled. This expansion means TFM will be the only weekday farmers’ market within Austin.
Plenty of parking will be available at the McBee Garage, which is $1 an hour and less than a five-minute walk, or along streets where parking is allowed. Additionally, for those who wish to utilize public transportation, the market is served by a nearby Capital Metro bus stop for routes 37 and 350.
