What’s 16-feet high, 30-feet long, colorful, shiny and lives in Lake Park? It’s Nessy the Lakeness Dragon! Nessy made her debut last week to welcome Mueller’s Lake Park and Thinkery goers.
Nationally renowned artist Dixie Friend Gay created the sculpture, drawing inspiration from mythological water creatures. The mosaic creation was made using handmade tiles to give the feeling of barnacles and other sea life, while adding textural distinctions with the smooth, glossy, glass tiles. Nessy joins Dixie’s 23-foot tall iron spider sculpture and three other art pieces at Mueller: the city’s largest public art project, “SunFlowers-An Electric Garden” by Mags Harries and Lajos Héder, located at Mueller along I-35 and local artist Chris Levack’s “Pollen Grain” and “Wigwam” in Mueller’s Southwest Greenway.
Check out pictures below from the installation and be sure to visit Nessy soon. It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser, whether you’re enjoying the park, playscape, Thinkery or future restaurants and retailers of Mueller’s Aldrich Street town center.
