If you’ve traveled around Mueller in the past week or so, you might have seen an eCab, an electricity-powered shuttle that looks like an enlarged, enclosed golf cart. This new pilot program, which officially starts on Monday, June 4, will connect Mueller residents, workers and visitors to Mueller’s commercial areas and new high-frequency bus service.
Known as the “Electric Last Mile Project,” the service will feature two vehicles with a driver and five passenger seats to transport anyone to places like the Aldrich Street district, the Mueller Market District and the regional retail center, plus bus stops along both Berkman Drive and Mueller Boulevard.
The eShuttles will operate on a flex-route, which means they will run a circulator route with the option of on-demand pickup and drop-off at points outside of the circulator route but within the Mueller neighborhood. You can catch a ride with eShuttle by hailing it from the street, texting or calling the dispatch number: 956-752-8454, or using the free Electric Cab app (you can download the app by clicking here and scrolling to the end). Feel free to catch a free ride and share your thoughts before it officially launches June 4.
The eight-month pilot program is a partnership between Pecan Street, Inc., Electric Cab of North America and Capital Metro, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Riders will initially be able to use the service at no charge, with the potential for a nominal fee to be introduced after additional study of the service. More information about the service will be available on Pecan Street’s website soon.
