The new Austin Energy headquarters is scheduled to break ground this summer along Mueller Boulevard between Philomena and Garcia streets, on the same block as Texas Mutual Insurance. Austin Energy anticipates moving in by Q2 2021, weather permitting.
The four-story building will feature approximately 275,000 sf of office space to accommodate approximately 900 to 1,100 employees. On the ground floor, Austin Energy is planning a 5,000 sf public meeting space; a service center for the public to update services, pay bills and learn about the utility’s various programs and offerings; and an interactive public exhibit space that will spotlight its nearly 125-year history. The building will front a 1,000-space, parking garage that will be generally hidden from public view. Over time, the top two floors of the garage can be converted into additional office space, as necessary.
Designed by ELS and Page and built by Harvey Cleary, Austin Energy is aiming for five stars in the Austin Energy Green Building program and LEED-Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Among its planned sustainability features are a series of 400kw photovoltaic solar arrays that are incorporated into the building’s roofline, 64 electric vehicle stations, the use of reclaimed and chilled water, and enclosed offices located at the center of the building to allow for more natural light.
Austin Energy selected Mueller as the site of its new office for the friendly, walkable neighborhood, nearby amenities, central location, accessible transit options and its strong relationship with Catellus on the Mueller redevelopment.
