2007 → 2017: Remembering Mueller’s First Homebuilder Announcement

March 30, 2017

In March 2007 Mueller’s western edge along I-35 was beginning to take shape. Dell Children’s Hospital was nearing completion, the regional retail center broke ground and trees were being planted in the Northwest Greenway. On March 5, 2007 Catellus announced the first of Mueller’s highly anticipated homes.

Mueller stakeholders and the media gathered overlooking the not-yet-completed Lake Park in a newly created information center, Mueller Central, to reveal the first homebuilders who would help shape the neighborhood’s character for years to come.

Following remarks by then-Mayor Will Wynn, the principals of each company — David Weekley Homes, Meritage Homes, The Muskin Company, Saldaña Homes, Standard Pacific Homes and Streetman Homes — stepped forward to open doors uncovering the logos of each homebuilder. They were given a hard hat featuring the Mueller logo, officially welcoming them to the development team.

In addition to unveiling Mueller Central and the homebuilders that day, the website revealed the unique Mueller elevations and floor plans for each home style: yard homes, row houses and garden court houses, so residents could explore the many options available, including Mueller’s first income-qualifying homes.

The Mueller Team also shared details about the Pioneer Program, created to manage the unprecedented interest in homes at Mueller. Prospective buyers would have approximately two months to complete a registration form specifying a home style and builder. Catellus would use a third-party accounting firm to randomly assign priority numbers to each registrant, who would be invited to visit with the builder’s sales team in numerical order.

A few weeks after the homebuilder announcement, prospective buyers had an opportunity to meet the homebuilders at Mueller Central. Nearly a thousand people showed up to learn about everything from interior features and exterior paint colors to financing and anticipated pricing. Approximately 1,100 people registered for the first phase of 348 homes and became known as Mueller Pioneers.
