If you’ve traveled around Mueller in the past week or so, you might have seen an eCab, an electricity-powered shuttle that looks like an enlarged, enclosed golf cart. This new pilot program, which officially starts on Monday, June 4, will connect Mueller residents, workers and visitors to Mueller’s commercial areas and new high-frequency bus service.
Known as the “Electric Last Mile Project,” the service will feature two vehicles with a driver and five passenger seats to transport anyone to places like the Aldrich Street district, the Mueller Market District and the regional...

Austin Energy has broken ground on an energy storage facility that could become a national model for future clean energy storage systems. The Austin Sustainable and Holistic Integration of Energy Storage and Solar Photovoltaics (SHINES) project will use a collection of seven, 10-foot-cubed energy storage units composed of lithium-ion batteries and inverters to store the energy produced by nearby solar panels during the day to be used when the sun is not shining.

As Aldrich Street continues, there are new employers moving in. AARP recently relocated their Texas operations to the Diamond Building. Bob Jackson, State Director of AARP Texas, and Rafael Ayuso, Manager of Communications for AARP Texas, let us stop by their offices so we could provide a behind-the-scenes look at life above the active paseo.
Jackson and Ayuso noted the 15+ employees working here have access to striking views and natural light, but it’s the surrounding vibe of the Aldrich Street district and the access to good food that creates a special place to work. &ldquo...

Due to high demand, Texas Farmers’ Market (TFM) will add a second market to its weekly schedule at Mueller. The new Wednesday afternoon and evening farmers’ market will provide a convenient opportunity for those who live, work and play in East Austin to pick up fresh produce midweek.

We’re reminiscing on the milestones that made Mueller so memorable this year.
Texas Mutual Insurance broke ground in Mueller. The four-story, 270,000-square-foot building is well on its way to house Texas’ leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance and approximately 700 employees when it’s scheduled to open in 2018. Kerbey Lane also announced plans to take first-floor space in the...

Before the old airport had even closed, Maureen and Jonathan Slocum were intrigued by the concept of Mueller. It was all-too-appropriate that they would become the first residents of the new development in 2007.
In the early 1990s, talk about closing the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport was taking off, and as plans were finalized, the conversation became more public. That’s when Maureen and Jonathan became involved, thinking it would be a good place to live if it became a residential development. They started joining public meetings, which soon became meetings with residential builders.

Perhaps you’ve noticed there’s a new trailer over at Mueller Trailer Eats: Compass Coffee. We caught up with the co-owners to learn more about their approach and how they ended up where they are today.
Colin Cooper and David Ibarra, the co-owners of Compass Coffee, were always headed in the same direction, but got there through different paths. The two met four years ago (working for Thunderbird Coffee), and recently went out on their own to bring their creativity and expertise directly to Austinites.
Originally from the Rio Grande Valley, Ibarra...
