National Night Out and More October Events

Mueller is hosting the city-wide National Night Out event on Tuesday, October 4 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Browning Hangar in Lake Park. Neighborhoods are then encouraged to return home and celebrate on their block. National Night Out, America’s night out against crime, is a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The event is designed to increase crime and drug prevention awareness, to support local anti-crime programs, and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. And that’s just one reason to make it out to Mueller this October.  In addition to combating crime, you can help fight cancer, celebrate mental health month or even run a half marathon. Take a look at all of the exciting activities coming up this month:

 

October 9 - See Jane Run Half-Marathon & 5k

Women will gather at Mueller Lake Park for Austin’s inaugural See Jane Run Half-Marathon and 5K. The half-marathon will kick off at 7 a.m., with the 5k starting at 8:30 a.m. and the kids’ one-mile race beginning at 10 a.m. For more information about the See Jane Run Half-Marathon & 5k and to learn about registration and other related events, visit www.seejanerun.com.

 

October 22 - Light the Night Walk

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual Light the Night Walk is a nationally commemorated fundraising event to bring hope to people battling cancer and to remember those who have lost their lives as a result of the disease. This year’s two-mile walk will be held on Saturday, October 22, at Lake Park at Mueller at 7 p.m. Check-in will begin at 5 p.m. in the Browning Hangar, followed by a remembrance ceremony at 6:30 p.m. The goal is to beat the South Central Texas Chapter's Austin Walk’s 2010 total of $600,000. All funds are donated to cancer research activities that help lead to major advances in the treatment of cancer. October 29 - Dell Children’s 5k Run and Family Fun Fair

Strap your running shoes on and join the Dell Children’s 5k and Family Fun Fair, put on by the Dell Children’s Home Team Circle of Friends! Complete with live music, games and activities after the 5K, this event benefits The Carl Teel Music Therapy Endowment and the Music Therapy Program at Dell Children’s Medical Center. October 30 – Say Boo! To Diabetes Walk for a Cure

This year’s Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes will take place at Mueller’s Lake Park beginning at 11:30 a.m. Families and friends will join together in a healthy two-mile walk to raise money to help find a cure for diabetes and to show off their Halloween costumes! There will even be a costume contest on Walk Day, so everyone is encouraged to show some spirit! Register your own team and find more information at www.jdrf.org/Austin.
