The Mueller Affordable Homes Program
Mueller is a community with a vision of being a place where all types of people from all walks of life can live, work, shop and play. Over the decades-long history of Mueller, as it's moved from vision to reality, a key component has been affordable and workforce housing that creates income diversity and vitality.
That's the genesis of the Affordable Homes Program, which includes one-quarter of all Mueller houses, condos and apartments — more than 1,100 homes — reserved for households below Austin's median income. That means Mueller can be home to:
- First-time homebuyers
- Working families building their financial stability
- Seniors on fixed incomes and persons with disabilities
- Teachers, nurses, police officers, firefighters and other essential service professions
- And others who thought they'd never be able to afford a home in Central Austin
For-Sale Affordable Homes
- Reserved for buyers at 80% or below Austin MFI
- Sales pricing allows buyers to spend no more than 30% of gross income on housing
- Buyers achieve the dream of home ownership through a shared appreciation program supported by the non-profit Mueller Foundation
- Homes are dispersed in every Mueller residential phase
- Homes are built by the same builders who are building market rate homes, under the same design standards as other Mueller homes
- Homes comply with the City of Austin's award-winning S.M.A.R.T™ Housing Program
- Homes earn at least a three-star rating in the Austin Energy Green Building Program, meaning substantial savings on energy
For-Rent Affordable Homes
- Reserved for renters at 60% or below Austin MFI. Household income is certified annually
- Rents set to allow buyers to spend no more than 30% of gross income on housing
- Units included in every Mueller multi-family community as well as in future 100% affordable apartment communities for seniors and working families
